This symposium will focus on the conflict of the preservation of religious
textiles, which are still in use. It will furthermore discuss their role once
religious textiles have been transferred to a museum. The presentations will
focus on ethical dilemma's, politics, resources, etc., rather than looking at
conservation techniques and methods. In a poster session more attention will
be given to conservation projects of (individual) textiles.

Panorama Mesdag
Panorama Mesdag is a cylindrical painting, more than 14 meters high and 120
meters in circumference. The vista of the sea, the dunes and Scheveningen
village was painted by one of the most famous painters of the Hague School,
Hendrik Willem Mesdag. It is the oldest 19th century panorama in the world in
its original site, and a unique cultural heritage.

use of bark cloth in Papua New Guinea. Conserving and restoring tree bark in
a museum is a special skill. This presentation also describes how it is done.

Paintings and other objects tell the story of the eighty-year war against the
Spanish. It also exhibits a wonderful collection of 17th century art.

The museum is in the former house of the nineteenth century artist Paul Tétar
van Elven. These historic rooms contain a large collection of paintings,
ceramics and porcelain. The museum also has one of the best-kept interiors of
the Netherlands.

the map. Works are on display by visual artists who have been living in the
city for some time, as well as by artists from the province and abroad who

the museum invited artist Joep van Lieshout/Studio for a presentation of his
own work as well as the work from the museum's collection.
